Picking Healthy Cat Food For Your Precious Feline

When it comes to the diet of your cat, there is nothing more important then making sure that you are giving him or her cat food that is high in protein. It is widely known that cats are meat eating animals and they need a lot of protein in their diet in order to feel satisfied and to be completely healthy. The first thing that has to be looked at when looking at the ingredients in the cat food is whether or not there is high protein. Since cats require a much higher level of protein in their food then dog's do, it is important to make sure that you are not trying to save money by feeding your cat dog food.

This is the biggest issues is the protein count in the cat food. Without the right amount of protein, the body of the cat will eventually start to break down the protein in its own muscle. So since this is such an important part of the diet of the cat, it is the first thing you have to look for when you are looking at the ingredients. Of course we do not want to forget that cats also need taurine, arginine, and amino acids. A well balanced meal is important to have at all times.

Picking The Right Brand

When it comes to finding the cat food with the right amount of protein and everything else, it is important to remember that just because a brand is a popular one; it does not mean that it is the best for your cat. Instead of looking at the price tag or the brand name, look solely at the ingredients. By doing so you will be sure to give your cat the very best you can give him or her.

Go with the cat food that does not contain any artificial ingredients or preservatives. You also want to make sure that the first ingredient listed from the meat source is protein. If the first ingredient listed is something like wheat or corn then you will want to put that cat food down and look for something else.

By-products are sometimes used as protein sources. These can be necks, feet, and other body parts. This is not considered a healthy protein source and over time it certainly won't be beneficial for your feline. Also if the first 5 ingredients contain 2 or more grains, it maybe your "protein" source is coming from vegetables and not meat.

Important for digestion are bacteria cultures or more commonly known as acidophilus.
Some companies do not add any and over the long run bad digestion can lead to issues from skin and coat problems, allergies, bowel issues and more.

Even though it may take you a while in the beginning to find the perfect food for your cat, it will all be worth it in the end. After you know which brands to select and which ones to avoid shopping for cat food will be easy.
